Andre Renoux is the Father of the Paris School of Urban Realism. Renoux is the most credentialed Urban Realist, as well as one of the most respected in Europe. He is truly one of France's national treasures. Known as the peintre-poete (painter-poet), he has made Paris his own by capturing the sounds, smells, tastes, and textures to your own experience and imagination. Paris by Renoux presents a personal vision of this magical city and there is something deceptively simple about his vision. He enables us to stop and dream before the old shops and bistros that he has so carefully preserved in their antiquity. Born in Oran, Algeria, 1939 to a family of Provencal origin, Renoux migrated France at the age ten and first studied painting Nice's Ecole des Arts Decoratifs. recalls, “I wasn’t Paris. I was on farm North Africa. So when arrived Paris eighteen, you begin discovering things, new world awakened around me.” Renoux's early canvases explored streetscapes and the legendary Montmartre. It was not long before he had fallen under the spell of the City of Light. Renoux's vibrant passion has enabled him to paint the very essence of Parisian life. With an affectionate eye for bistros, cafes, squares and shop fronts, Renoux invites you to experience the Paris he cherishes so deeply in his heart and to be his companion in nostalgia. |

![]() President Valery Giscard d'Estaing in 1974 ordered 250 etchings and even visited Renoux in person. The French Secretariat of State for Tourism has commissioned his works to be distributed worldwide through French Embassies both in poster and lithograph forms. Renoux says, “Paris is bistros, boulangeries and restaurants. That’s where you see Parisians. You won't find them at the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe” Renoux chooses not to depict Paris as a tourist, but rather capture its history and soul. He is compelled to preserve the unique beauty of flowers on a balcony or a glimpse into a private courtyard. Renoux feels that his work is a tribute to an enchanting city and that his art is a discovery of a hidden Paris. |
